What does it feel like?
First off, zero gravity puts your body and muscles into a state of equilibrium. Your neck and back angle slightly forward, while your hips and knees bend slightly inward. The heaviest part of your body (your hips) sinks slightly into the contours of the mattress, providing an incredibly comfortable sleep. Secondly, depending on the density you’ve chosen, you’ll experience varying degrees of this position – for example, soft will put you in the most accentuated zero gravity position and is recommended for those who prefer a soft mattress and/or those looking for a serious zero g experience.
Should I flip my mattress?
No, you should not flip your mattress, as the contour in the foam is only effective in the upright position.

Should I rotate my mattress?
You are more than welcome to rotate your mattress; however, it is not required to get the best sleep of your life. If you’d like to rotate your mattress and have varying densities on each side, reach out to us, and we’ll walk you through the process so you don’t have to switch sides.
How should I clean the mattress?
Although the top cover is removable, we do not recommend washing and drying the cover in a traditional machine. You can, however, hand wash any spots with gentle detergent and lay flat to dry.

How does the personalization work?
We use variable density materials to provide a customizable experience for each sleeper. When you prepare to purchase your mattress, you are able to select a customized firmness for each side of the mattress. What is zero gravity?
Your muscular life is all about push and pull. While one set of muscles is active, another one is relaxing, even when you're standing or lying down. When there's no gravity, though, the human body does something interesting: your muscles find a point of equilibrium, where everything is as relaxed as possible and nothing is pulling against anything else. This balance of forces results in a very particular body position: the neck and back angle slightly forward, while the hips and knees bend slightly inward.
Several ergonomic technologies, from office chairs to luxury cars, have taken advantage of these principles to reduce muscle fatigue while sitting. By designing the Kala mattress to even more closely simulate this "weightless" position, we're taking that technology a step further: creating sleep that not only rests tired muscles to speed recovery, but also harnesses a number of other health benefits.
To experiment even more with your "zero g" sleep experience, try adjusting the elevation effect by moving up and down the Kala mattress. For example, if you put your head/pillow as far to the end of the bed as possible, the elevation effect is maximized, while shifting more toward the middle of the mattress lessens the effect.
What is AirString?
AirString is a 3D cushion technology made from recyclable LDPE. It is washable, breathable, flexible, durable, and recyclable – some say it’s the future…now.
Is there an adjustment period?
Most likely, although this varies for each sleeper. Your body has been accustomed to sleeping on another surface, and may need a few weeks to fully adapt. The foam and LDPE materials also have a short “break in” period, meaning your mattress will only become more comfortable over time – we recommend giving your body a full 30 days to adjust to the Kala sleep experience before making up your mind.
How is this different than other mattresses?
Our patent pending foam contours, along with our customizable top layer, provide a unique sleep. The convenience of our packaging and delivery allow this sleeping position, which has previously been achieved through adjustable beds, to be accessible to everyone.

How can I buy a mattress without trying it?
We know it’s hard. However, consider your traditional mattress-purchasing behavior: you walk into a store with hundreds of mattresses, you lay down on a mattress for 30 seconds and awkwardly make small talk with a salesperson, then you stand up and immediately feel pressured to purchase. You arrange for movers because that mattress is cumbersome, and if you’re not sleeping any better your options for return are limited.
We’re looking to change that by building a mattress that works for you, shipping it to you to try in the comfort of your home, working with you after the sale to resolve any sleeping issues (they happen, even to the best of us), and giving you a 100-night trial period!

When purchasing a Queen/King, which side is which?
The sides listed on the site are relative to you facing the bed. So, the left side is left when you're facing the bed and right when laying on it facing up. If you have any more questions about this, shoot us an email!

What foundations can I use?
The Kala mattress works on various surfaces, including but not limited to: slats, platform beds, box springs made for foam, pop up camper, and last but not least, the floor.
Shipping:
How is my mattress shipped?
Your mattress, after assembled, goes through a “magical process” (aka roll pack machine) that slowly compresses it, wraps it in plastic, rolls it like a burrito, and places it in a box about the size of a mini-refrigerator. We’ll send it to you via UPS or FedEx Ground (depending on timing for your location), and it will arrive right at your doorstep.
What are the shipping costs?
Don’t stress about the shipping costs! We provide free shipping to all 48 contiguous states. If you live in Hawaii or Alaska, message us at help@kalasleep.com, and we’ll talk you through our options.
How long will it take my order to arrive?
Because each mattress is personalized, it will take us 2-3 business days to assemble your mattress. With shipping, you can expect 7-10 business days for your mattress to arrive.
How much does the mattress weigh?
Because our materials vary depending on firmness, the weights listed here are approximate: King (120 lbs), CA King (120 lbs), Queen (95 lbs), Full (80 lbs), Twin XL (60 lbs), Twin (60 lbs).
Where is my mattress manufactured?
We proudly manufacture our mattresses in a facility in Chicago, IL – they’ve been making textiles and mattresses for over 100 years, and are truly experts!
How do I check my order status?

Where do you ship?
Currently, we only offer free shipping to the 48 contiguous states. However, please reach out to us if you live elsewhere and are interested in our products – we will be considering expansion within the next year.
Do I need to be home to receive the package?
All of our packages are sent without the need for a signature.
Can I request a specific delivery date?
No, at this time that option is unavailable given the customized nature of our products.

Returns & Warranty:
What is the 100-night sleep trial?
Because sleep is a personal process, we allow each customer 100 nights to get used to their mattress before returning. However, we do require you to try our mattress for a 30-night period from date of purchase before initiating a return. No matter the reason for return, please reach out to us at help@kalasleep.com, so we can assist you in making your mattress work for you – you deserve it!
What is your return policy?
Please know that while we do allow for returns after our 30-night adjustment period, we would love to work with you to make your mattress work for you – while other companies coordinate recycling in some cities, oftentimes they are forced to retire (almost) new mattresses to landfills. We’d love to work with you to minimize the ecological impact of such practices, and make your sleep as comfortable as it can be.

What happens to returned mattresses?
You are responsible for responsibly disposing of your mattress. Once we have authorized your return, you can donate the bed to a local charity and provide us with the receipt. At that point, we will refund you your original purchase price.
Can I exchange my mattress?
No, exchanges are not available. However, if you are experiencing issues with comfort level, please reach out to us at help@kalasleep.com, and we’ll work with you to optimize your sleep experience.
When will I receive my refund?
Your refund should arrive in your account within 2 weeks after we acknowledge your donation receipt.
Setup:
How long can I store in the box?
We recommend storing your mattress in the box no longer than 2 weeks after receipt.
How do I setup the mattress?
- Remove your mattress from the box, and cut the plastic with scissors to avoid damaging the fabric. Note that we do not allow returns for damages made while opening the package.
- Unroll your mattress and flip it over – we rolled it upside down so that the stronger, structural foam receives the majority of the pressure and the softer materials are less compressed . The light grey side of the mattress should be on top.
- Place your mattress on your sleeping surface
- Wait for it…it will likely take up to an hour for the compressed materials to return to their normal shape
- Go to sleep. Our technology will keep you cool all night.
Is the packaging recyclable?
Yep! Everything that comes in the box (and the box itself) is recyclable.
